The thrills of Halloween have come and gone, the freak blizzard is over, and we're now in the midst of a heat wave. November, why are you so fickle? The New York Marathon has past and I'm a whole year older, with only a month and a half of school to go until I am a college graduate.

I have not seen too many gallery shows worth blogging about. I've been up Richard Serra's ass for two weeks working on a presentation and a term paper, so there's that... I will certainly post some pics and reviews once I am blown away by a particular show. Maybe that naked sensory deprivation at the New Museum, or the painting show at the Brooklyn Museum, American works from the roaring 20s. The 1920's were such a fantastic time for Americans. The war had ended, and neither prohibition or the great depression had happened yet. Ladies dresses got much shorter all of a sudden and people were more or less content for a decade. Yes, that sounds like a fine time to paint!

Speaking of a fine time, this is a pic from BARCADE, an arcade themed bar (go figure) in Brooklyn that has SO many games. Go. Now. Bring quarters, and a beer connoisseur because they have some designer beer on tap, 30 kinds, I believe, at a time and they are all seasonal.

DIA Beacon

Some of the most fun I've ever had on a Sunday- at DIA Beacon. Only an 80 minute drive (or MetroNorth ride) from Manhattan (which, this weekend, was full of peak foliage) and only $10 entry fee. If you have the means, I highly suggest going. It is ENORMOUS. Words cannot begin to describe the mammoth size of this sculpture house. It took me three and a half hours of walking around to even cover the whole place once, and I'm still not sure if I even saw everything.

3.5 hours for 3.5 floors. The ground floor is the largest, and has the most work. The basement is dark and creepy, as basements are, and full of video art. I've said before, I am not the medias biggest fan, and this day was no different. Too many pieces in one space, and all very disorienting. There should be a warning for anyone with epilepsy in the elevator. The top floor had very few pieces compared to the other levels, and did not grab my attention as much. My favorite floor was the Mezzanine, dedicated entirely to Richard Serra pieces. Beyond incredible.

This show is running until January, so please haul ass to Queens and see it before it's gone. I was lucky enough to see this show in the middle of the night during open bar promoting a grapefruit and some kind of vodka cocktail I can't recall the name of (shocker?). Muppets and DJs all rolled into one! Long live the legacy of Jim Henson : )
